Crushing on Freed & Freed

In our city of growing style & winters that dip further into the negative double digits each time it comes, it is hard not to leave the cozy warm heat at home & step out the door not looking like a bulky, hefty Michelin Man.

As I have said before, Winnipeg is full of amazing talent. Quality talent.

A talented 4th generation, impressively young for her presidential company title, Winnipeg woman has taken her families heritage company to new heights. She has dreamed up an outerwear collection that is classic, unique & made up of stately staples for our Winnipeg winters.

Hence, no more Michelin Man. Rather, you get luxury, quality & double takes. Thank you Marissa Freed.

Meet Freed & Freed.

As one of the few textile related, multi-generational companies that Canada has left, I think that it is comforting that there is no outsourcing in this companies product creation. They are conceived & constructed right here & Marissa named her pieces, both dame & homme, fittingly after Canadian cities, villages, provinces. A continued tribute to her proud heritage.

Take the “Winnipeger” below. It provides a clean lined silhouette in wool with a classic single breasted neck that has the option of wearing the ‘snap in & out’  down vest & removable fur hood (a must for our -30 days). Remove those 2 items & you now have a 3 season transitional coat. Adorable for the fall by rocking just the shell, no liner & hood, with cute flats & soft pashmina. Add the cozy furred hood & vest when snow falls & you slip on your winter foot warmers. Maybe lose the hood but keep the vest when it’s slushy rain boot season. Even better, it comes in Pitch Black, Midnight Blue or Alpaca Wool (shown). Options make everything better.

My favourite (& slightly obsessed over) style of choice is most definitely the ‘Queen Charlotte‘. With it’s classic black allure, oversized cozy removable fur adornment, removable vest & waist accenting belt, it is timelessly perfect & effortlessly chic.

I have always eyed the different (but all equally stunning) pieces in this collection on social media, however today was my first day visiting the site which is user friendly, well laid out & showcases & describes the line wonderfully – you should also check out The Freed & Freed Instagram, Twitter, Facebook. If you want to find out where to find one of these gems, their site will let you know where to go right here or contact Village Streetwear on Corydon to see what their stock houses.

I am thinking with time, my ‘growing older/adding to chosen collection’ may possibly have to be Freed & Freed pieces. Much better choice than stamps or coins right?

~~love~~
